Preparation : Day I

Today we did a lot of shopping in terms of preparation. We bought a lot of little things, getting ready for the trip ahead.

With all the research we’ve been doing we’ve tried to narrow down what we need for our specific needs. We’re certainly not done yet but somewhere is better than nowhere.

Body things. It’s a process of limiting what we have and putting it into new containers with some of the stuff. We bought baby wipes for the fact that we’re bound to be using those the most of cleaning up. Haven’t decided if we should bring both packs to start. We’re still not in the “this is too much we have to downsize” phase yet.

The Medkit. We bought a basic first aid kit, we’ve got some ace bandages (not pictured) bandaid. alcohol wipes, multivitamins, chapstick, a knee brace for the Cat Guy, and some anti-diarrhea meds. We’ve still gotta get some cold pill.

Step one in the cooking department we got an all metal pan (even replaced the original plastic top handle with a metal one) so we can stick it in a fire/over a fire. Two tin cups for heating, drinking, and hoboing and fire in a can of course. We’re trying to make a system to cook using those, but cooking is the Cat Man’s venture and really he’s all hung up on Jerky. (Or is that me?) We still have a lot to go in this department.

And last but not least; Dog Snacks! We were looking for the Zukes snacks at first. However Moose can be oddly picky about her snacks so we like to test before we feed and that brand is hard to find in Manhattan. So we decided to go with these two instead. One is a crisp cracker like snack, the other jerky ;) We also got fishoil (for all of us, but it’s good for dogs based on a lot of working dog sites) for energy and regular asprin in case anything were to happen, or if Moose is feeling sore as dogs can not have Tylenol (the brand we are using for ourselves.)
